I guess I missed this when originally broadcast because I was busy. It was the day after Christmas so, that is part of it. However, I have been fond of Betye Saar’s work for a long time. Miami Art Museum has some of her work in their permanent collection. I tried to get an image of it last year but, with plexi on the front, the reflections are bad. (NPR podcast)
Betye Saar is an assemblage artist who calls herself a conjurer, a recycler.
In a way, her own heritage is a collage: African, Irish, American Indian.
